Memorial services for Florence Mulder Mackie, 94, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mackie died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the VNA Care Cottage in Lawrence.
She was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Melville Clarke.
Mrs. Mackie graduated from Drury College, Springfield, with a biochemistry degree and later did graduate work at Purdue University. She lived in Rochester, N.Y., and Ketchum, Idaho, before moving to Lawrence in 2001.
She was active in many philanthropic and volunteer activities. In Rochester, she was an active supporter of 3rd Presbyterian Church and community family service organizations. In Ketchum, her time, energy and financial contributions to the library and its thrift store, The Goldmine, were prominent.
Mrs. Mackie was an avid gardener while in Idaho. Her specialty was growing gardens of native plants. She enjoyed fishing, skiing the mountains of Idaho, spending time with her grandchildren, and was also an avid cross-country skier.
She married John Mulder in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She married John W. Mackie Jr. in 1989. He preceded her in death in 2003.
She was also preceded in death by her children Jon G. Mulder and Jean Mulder Beebe; and a grandson, Ben Beebe.
Survivors include a daughter, Allison Mackie Haworth and husband Gary, Lawrence; two sons, Andrew Mackie and wife Kathleen, Ottawa, and Jack Mackie and wife Joy, Houston; a daughter-in-law, Dee Carr; a son-in-law, Hugh Beebe; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
