A Celebration of Life for Lesley Michelle “Les” Smith, 38, Lawrence, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge, 1803 W. 6th St., Lawrence.
Miss Smith was found Sept. 21, 2010, in Clinton Lake, after disappearing from her home on Jan.26, 2004.
She was born Jan. 23, 1966, in Ottawa, the daughter of Dennis D. “Jack” and Marilyn S. Elbs Smith. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1984, and later attended Washburn University. At the time of her death, she was planning to attend nursing school. She enjoyed softball, and attended the World Softball Tournament twice in Seattle and Florida. She was a wine connoisseur, and loved to make people laugh and to make uncomfortable situations more comfortable.
Survivors include her mother, Marilyn Anderson and husband Gary, Lawrence; her father, Jack Smith and wife Janice, Ottawa; and two brothers, Kent Anderson and wife Wendee, Kansas City, Kan., and Mike Anderson and wife Lynn, Wichita.
The family suggests memorials in Lesley’s name to the Lawrence Humane Society, or the Bea Martin Peck Animal Shelter in Ottawa, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
Marilyn and Gary,
Jack and Janice,
My most heartfelt condolences go to you and your families. You know that even in the toughest of times good can be found. This celebration of life to experience again and just to treasure the memories that we all have of Les will be priceless. Les will be dancing in the streets of heaven looking down on this occassion knowing that family and friends all care. “We love you Les”
I hope so much that I can attend but should I not I will find a time of silence from what I am doing to offer my thoughts of Les. I know they will be heard.
Hoping to be there
Kevin
