No services will be held for Anna Maria “Sunny” Zimmerman, 96, Lawrence. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Zimmerman died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 27, 1914 in Cokato, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Katie A. Taurainen Salmela. She grew up in attended public school in Minneapolis. She then went on to Nurse Training in Kansas City, Kansas at the Florence Cook School of Nursing for a year, and graduated from KU Medical Center in 1957.
Anna Maria lived in Minnesota for 21 years, then lived in Illinois, Colorado, and settled in Lawrence. She worked at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for three and a half years, then at Dr. Zimmer’s office, and at the Samaritan Lodge before retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Autumn Club, Travel Club, and AARP.
She married Joseph Alvin Zimmerman, September 3, 1960 in Lawrence, he died in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Renee Ann Reese, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and a brother Roy Marvin Salmela, Topeka; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Harold.

Renee and family, Deepest sympathies to you and your family upon the death of Sunny. Marilyn called today to tell me of her passing. It has been years, but I still remember you and your family and all the family times we had a Grandma and Grandpa Johanning’s farm.
