Addene ‘Dean’ Hardister

Private memorial services will be held for Addene ‘Dean’ Hardister, 86, Lawrence.
Mrs. Hardister died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at her home.

She was born June 14, 1926, in Batesville, Ark., the daughter of Clyde & Gladys Thomas Hinchman. She grew up in Batesville and graduated from Batesville High School.

Mrs. Hardister was a homemaker, and assisted her husband in the family business – Hardister Painting and Decorating, until it was sold in 1977. The joy of Dean’s life was nurturing her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, as well as in Europe. She loved the Kansas Jayhawk basketball games and other sports, too. Bridge and square dancing were favorite past-times for more than 30 years. Hobbies included reading, music, and collecting antiques and American Indian art.

She married John H. Hardister on Feb. 14, 1945, in DeSoto, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2010, as did her two brothers, Harold and Ralph Hinchman and their wives.

Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Lasswell, Lawrence, Wanda Cox, Lawrence, and Donna Avey (Jerry), Longmont, Colo.; two brothers in law, Homer Welsh and Don Ray, both of Lawrence; two sisters in law, Patty Allen, St. Joseph, Mo., and Patricia Hardister, Lawrence; 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
