A visitation for George William Stevens, 77, Topeka, will be Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 10am to 12pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, Kansas. Cremation is planned following the visitation.
Mr. Stevens died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Stormont Vail Healthcare in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born January 22, 1936 in Winchester, Kansas to Roy William “Pete” and Iva Lee Tarr Stevens. After school he entered the United States Air Force where he eventually retired after 20+ years of service.
Mr. Stevens enjoyed NASCAR, mowing, playing pool, going to car shows, and watching the animals in his yard. He was a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus.
He married Velma Turner in December of 1956. She died in April of 1996. He married Geneatha Ann Turner in November of 1997. She died August 5, 2013.
Survivors include a son, Mark Stevens of Clarksville, AR; daughters, Sherie Doran of Paris, AR, Terie Elkins and husband Alfred of Lecompton, KS, Angela Allen and husband Ricardo of Topeka, KS; brothers, Roy Lee Stevens and wife Wilma of Winchester, KS, Dennis Stevens and wife Ethel of McLouth, KS; grandchildren, Christina Goodrick and boyfriend Dusty Gruver and his son Haven Gruever, Carly Miller, Bradley Goodrick, James Goodrick, Christopher Stevens, Rebecca Wincle, Jenna Luckie; great grandchildren, Kristopher Sprengeler, Karissa Goodrick, Donovan Miller, Austin Goodrick, Harley Farrier, Mara Miller, Wyatt Goodrick, and Laeson Wincle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Velma, and infant sister Shirley Stevens.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
I worked with George at the FMC plant for 10 years. He was a very good friend and was always willing to help when anybody had a problem. He was a good electrician, and a good employee. We will deeply miss him.
