Orval E. Edmonds, 82, Lawrence, passed away Monday, November 17. He was a lifelong resident of the Lawrence area. Orval was a graduate of Liberty Memorial High School, and attended the University of Kansas. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and obtained his commercial pilot’s license in 1958. He was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion. For more than 40 years, Orval was a successful self-employed businessman, owning and operating O&W Construction Company. His favorite activities were hunting, fishing, and spending time with his beloved family. Orval married his wife Wilma, on December 27, 1963. They have three children, Karen, Keenan, and Kelli; and two granddaughters, Lydia and Jamie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Eunice Edmonds; his sisters Elizabeth Edmonds Duncan and Doris Edmonds Anderson; and his brothers Marvin Edmonds and Bill Edmonds. His surviving sisters are Lois Edmonds Hamlet (Don) and Edna Mae Edmonds Benschoter Lolley, and a sister in law, Melva Edmonds. Orval’s sense of humor, booming laugh, compassion, grace and lively debates will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 20, 6-8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at First Christian Church of Lawrence on Friday, November 21, at 1 pm. A private family burial at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Disabled American Veterans.
