Blanch Rombach

Blanch Rombach, 92, passed peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 25, 2015. She lived in Lawrence for 38 years and had developed strong ties within the community.

Funeral services will be held in Albany, NY on Thursday, Oct 1st where she will be interred next to her daughter, Jean Ellenbogen at Ohav Shalom Cemetery.

Blanch was born in Brooklyn New York in 1923. She was a Navy civilian worker during World War II as a First Class Welder. She worked on the Battleship Missouri and later was responsible for re-welding damaged brass ship propellers. In Lawrence she was active in Parents Without Partners, Older Women’s League and The Jewish Community Center where she was the backbone of the Annual Blintz Brunch for many years. In addition, she was an avid painter, gardener and loved to dance. Especially talented in carpentry and fixing things, she had a tool for everything.

She was fiercely independent, a true survivor of the Depression, a contributor of World War II and dedicated to her many friends and family.

Blanch is pre-deceased by her husband Oliver Matthew Rombach Jr. and her daughter Jean Ellenbogen. She is survived by her brother, Bernie Gutman (Barbie) of Florida, daughter Pat Bates (Tom) and son Bob Rombach (Liz) both of Lawrence, 9 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.

A celebration of Life is planned in Lawrence for Sunday, October 25, 2015, at The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, 917 Highland Drive at 2 pm.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Senior Services, Inc (Senior Meals) and The Lawrence Jewish Community Center, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Saw Blanch often at her home in Meadowbrook. Always enjoyed stopping and chatting with her. She would always have tickets for the blintz brunch for us. Such a sweet lady.
