Jerome G. ‘Jerry’ Kern

A memorial visitation for Jerome G. ‘Jerry’ Kern, 65, Leavenworth, will be from 6-8 pm Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, Lawrence. Jerry died Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, at his home in Leavenworth, after an extended battle with myelodysplasia, a rare blood disorder. He fought the disease with grace.

He was born July 30, 1950, in Leavenworth, to George and Charlotte (Malody) Kern. Jerry worked for many years at Inland Storage in Turner, Kan. as a forklift driver. Later he worked as a painter for several different businesses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends. He always walked on the wilder side of life. In his later years, his favorite thing to do was hang out at the Missouri River with his buddies

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jerry Kern Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.

A private ceremony will follow at a later date.

From Marilyn Ward...

I am so sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. We all went to school and ran around together in school and in later years I discovered my friend again. Jerry was always a kind soul who you could say “once a friend, always a friend.” He will be missed.
