Francisco (Frank) Romero

Frank Romero, 88 entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 27, 2017.

A rosary will be recited at 6 pm, Thursday, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, a visitation will follow the rosary until 8 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am, Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1234 Kentucky Street. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Frank was born to Gonzalo and Avelina Ramirez Romero in Lawrence, Kansas on April 2, 1929. He was married to Lazara (Lala) Gauna for 66 years, she survives of the home. They had five children, Anna Romero Dawson (Eric), Mary Lou Pierce (Kerry), Diane Romero, Mark Romero (Lori), Amy Chavez (Gabriel).

He served his country in the U.S. Army and was station in Germany in the early 50’s. He worked for the U.S. Postal service from 1954 until he retired in 1990 Frank was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. His hobbies included painting, wood working, traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a gentle soul, an amazing husband, father and friend, who will be missed by all who knew him.

Frank is survived by his brothers, Tony, Rick, Peter, Omar and his sisters Jenny, Alberta, Tina, Cassie, Phyllis, Lorrie and Becky. 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and his faithful loving dog Napo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jose, daughter Mary Lou and granddaughter Alicia Chavez.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses or the Altar Society of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
