Graveside inurnment services for Mary Jane Wempe, 39, Lawrence, will be 11 am, Monday, August 28, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday, August 25, 2017 from 5-6 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
She died Monday August 21, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Mary was born December 8, 1977, in Lawrence, the daughter of Donald Louis and Mary Cathleen Pfantz Wempe.
She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1997. Mary was a cashier at Wal-Mart on Iowa street here in Lawrence. Mary enjoyed watching anime and loved her cats.
Survivors include her parents, Donald L. Wempe, Osage City, KS and Mary Cathleen Wempe, of the home; siblings Laura Fingers, Mo, Fred Wempe, Lawrence, John Wempe, Lawrence, Naomi Smith, Lawrence; several aunts and uncles and six nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Francis and Frances Wempe, George and Virgie Pfantz.

So sad to hear of Marys passing, she was a pleasure to be a part of her life many years ago! Gods blessing your smile and laughter will always have your place in my heart!
Mary was a sweet person. Many knew her from her working at Walmart. She was able to brighten someone’s day with her large, genuine smile. For those of us who knew her, she will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
RIP Mary, I enjoyed seeing you weekly at Walmart. My daughters and son loved hearing about your cats. You will be missed.
