Services for James (Jerry) Jerome McGriff, 80, Lawrence, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on 3615 W. 10th Street in Lawrence, Kansas. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Argos, Indiana.
Jerry McGriff died Monday, August 6, 2018 at his home.
He was born October 7, 1937 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Paul and Dorothy McGriff. He graduated from Argos High School in 1956. He moved to Lawrence in 2005.
Mr. McGriff served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was an E-6 Staff Sergeant stationed in Argos, Indiana from 1956 to 1962. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He married Phyllis Joan Reece on June 14, 1959. They were married for 59 years this past June. She survives of the home. To this union four children were born.
Other survivors include sons, David (Nancy), Provo, Utah and Kevin (Susan), Bossier City, Louisiana; a daughter, Penne (Jim), Lawrence, Kansas; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Patricia, Joeann, Dorothy and a son, Richard Allen.
Friends may call from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, where family will receive them.
The family suggests memorial services to LDS Humanitarian Services or Douglas County Visiting Nurses.
Mrs. McGriff, the staff at Cardiac/pulmonary rehab were saddened to hear of Jerry’s passing. We enjoyed getting to know him and his fun sense of humor. He will be missed. Praying for your family at this difficult time.
