Daniel (Dan) Milton Chappell, 55, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on January 4, 2024.
Born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas by his mother, Sharon Brown Chappell, and grandparents, Doris and Milton Brown, his early years shaped a life characterized by connection and a deep respect for his roots. A graduate of Field Kindley High School, Class of 1986, Dan carried the spirit of his hometown with him as he ventured to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas. His journey in Lawrence was marked by over three decades of dedicated service at the Hallmark Lawrence Production Center.
Dan’s passion for preserving and sharing family stories was evident in his love for collecting and revitalizing antiques and photos. Imparting the stories of family and ancestors was a role and activity Dan cherished.
While Dan’s life was a tapestry of complexities, he fiercely loved his children, Matthew and Abigail. Dan was predeceased by his loving grandparents, his mother Sharon, and his father, James Lee Chappell. He will be missed by Matthew and Abigail, as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
Plans for a celebration of Dan’s life are underway in Lawrence, with a subsequent burial to follow in his beloved Coffeyville. Details of these services will be provided in due course.

Uncle Dan was full of joy and he kept me laughing.. from when he came to my hotel to the time he left with me and all the way back to the hotel. We talked weekly after he returned to the super 8 but uncle Dan was the greatest. We got our hair cuts on the same day and everything… my grandkids loved their great uncle Dan….my ex wife loved uncle Dan and we were all saddened to hear the day you left us… forever humbled
I am so very sorry to hear of Dan’s passing. He was a good friend. Always talked with me and cared how I was. May his soul rest in peace. Something I know he searched for on earth. Prayers for you all!
Recently within this year had I met “Mr. Uncle Dan”… as my parents died fighting their addictions, I could only see the same heartbreaking individual who was a hero once to someone, become such a soldier of defeated addiction. He has forever more made a place in my heart for him to always stay. Bless all the family, may you only know nothing but the best greatest of his memory should live on n no words should be spoke against him, forgiveness is golden. Peace is beautiful for the soul, it is life to live with faith in hope. So I hope Mr Dan you are watching over all of us when in need. You were my family, you will remain remembered.

Deepest sympathy to all friends and family. Dan was the kindest man who always stopped to visit and check in to see how your day was going. After retirement I would run into him and again, always a smile and visit. A very good, kind man who will be missed.
I pray Abigail and Matthew know how much their Father Truly Loved them despite his personal battles.
Addiction is Cruel…

The measure of a man is determined by his Love, Kindness and Laughter. I am lucky to have called Dan “the Man” my Friend. I love you Buddy… may you now Rest in Peace and Run Free with the Angles.

My heart breaks to hear this. Dan was a very kind soul who worked his butt off not only for Hallmark but to care for his kids and family. The kind of man that help in an instant. He was kind, smart, funny, and a intelligent man. You will be missed more then you know by many. R I.P my friend
I am shocked to hear about Dan! I used to see him almost every week during the past six years at the gas station on his way into work. Our friendship started a long time ago at Hallmark Cards. He was always glad to see me and share his family and work updates. Erica, Prayers and condolences to you and your family. Dan will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
