Duane Timothy “Tim” Smith Sr, 68, of Lawrence, died Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his home, with family.
He was born November 11, 1956, in Georgetown, Ohio, the son of Dallas and Loretta Smith. He attended Western Brown High School in Mount Orb, Ohio. Tim moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1986.
On November 18, 1980, married Claudia Sims, she survives of the home. Other survivors include four sons and one daughter, Marty Smith, William Charleston, Duane Smith Jr, Brent Smith, and Elizabeth (Ryan) Adams; nine grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Darly (Jerri) Smith, Donald (Jane) Smith, Lisa (Billy) Conover, and Sue (Mike) Dickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loretta and Dallas Smith, sister, Laura Lewis, brothers, Dean and Dennis Smith, and son, Robert Clayton on September 29, 1986.
Tim loved to be outdoors and enjoyed fishing whenever he could.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Douglas County State Fishing Lake in Baldwin, Kansas. In the event of inclement weather, the gathering will be held at his daughter’s home.
