Lou Ann Adams

Lou Ann Adams, 84, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, transitioned peacefully into God’s arms as a patient of Grand Strand Medical Center at 10:54 on the morning of June 6, 2019.

She was born Lou Ann Mitchell daughter of Lee Martin Mitchell and Thelma Mae Coffman on October 28, 1934. Lou Ann graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1952. She married John Thomas Adams on March 20, 1952 and moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 1955. John Thomas and Lou Ann divorced in 1982.

Lou Ann was preceded in death by both of her parents, an older brother, Lawrence Lee Mitchell, and a nephew, Mark Douglas Mitchell.

Survivors include two younger sisters: Lora Jane Pilgrim and Linda Mae Saidler; a younger brother, Larry Allen Mitchell; four children: Thomas Lee Adams of Colorado, Teri Suzanne Adams Sharp (Theodore) of South Carolina, Amy Kathleen Finney of Washington, and Michael David Adams of Kansas; 11 grandchildren: James Henry Adams, Adam Paul Sharp, Emily Sharp Nelson (Scott), Lauren Michelle Parks (Chad), John William Adams, Dominic Antonio Ramos, Matthew Paul Sharp, Jonathan Paul Sharp, Abigail Marie Adams, Mackenzie Renee Adams (Lucas), Sebastian Alexander Frazier Finney; and five great grandchildren: Eve Marie Ramos, Lily Rose Parks, Wade Thomas Parks, Cannon James Weeks, and Hailey Rae Nelson; a niece, Leigh O’Connor (Tom) and multiple extended family members and dear friends.

Lou Ann graduated from the KU Med Center School of Allied Health in 1980. She was Director of Cardio Pulmonary Services at Lawrence Memorial Hospital 1982-1998. Once retired, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Lawrence school system. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and felt that her faith helped her through five years as a surviving pancreatic cancer patient.

She enjoyed traveling, dancing, Country Western music, playing cards, entertaining friends, tap dancing, collecting antiques, and taking Art classes at KU. She was an avid fan of KU sports and often believed that her KU sweater gave them good luck on the basketball court.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions made to LMH Cancer Center or Shriners Hospital for Children. A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. A celebration of Lou Ann’s life will be from 5-6:30 pm, Friday, June 14, 2019,at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church 5700 W 6th St, Lawrence, KS 66049.

Andrew Nicholas Adams

Andrew Nicholas Adams, Lawrence, was born at rest on June 22, 2018. A private memorial service will take place at a later date. Although he did not take a breath, Andrew was so very sweet and is so very loved.

Andrew is the son of Nick and Lauren Adams, and he is the baby brother of Hudson (6.5) and Colby (3.5). Andrew is the grandson of Leonard “Butch” Adams and Judy Adams, Lawrence, Terry Wilkinson, Lawrence, and Mark Wilkinson, Louisville, Kentucky, and he is the great-grandson of Joan Wilkinson, Tryon, North Carolina. Andrew is the nephew of Tim and Jenny Laird, Lawrence, Claire Wilkinson and Aaron Stehman, Lawrence, and Lisa Wilkinson and Dave Eagle, Melbourne, Australia, and he is the cousin of Arlo Stehman, Fiona Stehman, Baby Stehman, Indigo Eagle, Ryan Laird, Alyssa Laird, and Brianna Laird. He is loved and remembered by many, many other family members and friends.

Andrew’s life was short due to complications from Trisomy 9; however, his impacts were great. He showed his parents and brothers that they have an unbelievable support system and community, and he also reminded them of the great impact that acts of kindness can have on others. They will always be grateful for their moments with Andrew during Lauren’s pregnancy.

Andrew’s family would especially like to thank Dr. Larisa Kimuri and Crystal Dwyer of Lawrence Family Medicine & Obstetrics, and the doctors, nurses, and other staff of KU Medical Center.

A tree will be planted in memory of Andrew at the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum. Donations in Andrew’s name may be made to the Lawrence Parks and Recreation’s Wee Folks Scholarship Fund, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
