Graveside services for William Eugene ‘Bill’ McCrary, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Bill died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Lawrence, the son of Marlin George and Ruby Olive Fairbanks McCrary. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School. Bill served in the United States Air Force in air traffic control, and retired as a Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service. He later worked for FMC Corporation. He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion, and enjoyed spending time with his Tuesday morning HyVee coffee group.
Bill married Letha Transmeier. They later divorced. He married Barbara F. Jones on Apr. 2, 1970, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four children, Debra Maulden and husband Henry, DeSoto, Ron McCrary, Dallas, Tex., Pamela Brown and husband Eric, Lawrence, and Kelli Tipton and husband Kirk, Clemmons, NC; a sister, Barbara Alldredge, Lawrence; a brother, David McCrary and wife Kathy, Baldwin City; and three grandchildren, Erika Brown, Jesse Brown, and Brooks Tipton. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Betty Curtiss, Vera Hadl, and Harold McCrary.
