Graveside services for Chester William ‘Bill’ Mitchell Jr., 74, Republic, Mo., formerly from Lawrence, will be at 2 pm Saturday at Overbrook Cemetery, with the Rev. Heather Coates officiating. Bill died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family.
He was born Aug. 21, 1944, in Lawrence, the son of Chester William Sr. and Cora Bernice Godfrey Mitchell. He attended schools in Lawrence, and worked as a dairy farmer, a crop farmer for the Pine and Wulfkuhle families, and a truck driver for Duane Shuck. In his spare time, he enjoyed 4-H activities with his kids, working on cars and tractors, and spending time with family. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Bill married Angela F. Elliott on Sept. 14, 1968, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include seven children, Kenneth Mitchell and wife Lynn, Ottawa, Jennifer Mitchell, Republic, Mo., Jeff Mitchell and wife Susan, Oskaloosa, Aime Mitchell, Topeka, Russell Mitchell and wife Ora, Overbrook, Justyna Mitchell, Republic, and Ashton Mitchell, Republic; three siblings, Allen Mitchell and wife Marilyn, Overbrook, Barbara Davis, Salina, and Delores Statler, Lawrence; fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Jeanette Mitchell and Pearl Halderman.
