David Alan Chipman

David A. Chipman of Lawrence, KS, passed away on February 9, 2019 after a lengthy illness.

David was born on June 12, 1948, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge, Massachusetts. He was born to Oliver G. and Winnifred (Fish) Chipman, both of whom proceeded him in death.

David leaves two sons, Andrew (Jennifer) Chipman of Appleton, Wisconsin and Christopher Chipman of Raleigh, North Carolina. He also leaves a brother, Brian Chipman of Florence, AZ, and an ex-wife Margaret Chipman of Lawrence. David also leaves 4 granddaughters, Elleson, Finley, Claire and Margo.

David lived his first 13 years in Southbridge, Massachusetts before moving to Overland Park, Kansas graduating from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1966. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1970. He received a Masters Degree from Kansas University in 2001.

Dave’s interests included bridge, traveling, writing, fantasy baseball and coffee. He was an avid bridge player and attained a Gold Life Master ranking. He was heavily involved in the Kaw Valley Bridge Club.

He realized a lifelong dream by traveling overseas (by freighter) to visit Italy and Istanbul.

He spent countless hours enjoying coffee at several local coffee houses, his favorite being Java Break.

Dave’s family would like to thank all that were part of his life. In addition, we wish to thank the people at Great Lakes Caring Home and Hospice and Brandon Woods at Alvamar for their help.

Friends are invited to a reception honoring Dave’s life on Sunday, February 17th from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Kaw Valley Bridge Club, 1025 N 3rd St #120, Lawrence, KS 66044.
