Frederic S. Lubin was born on July 24th, 1942, at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He completed a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Kansas. He met his wife, Dixie Whiteman, while at KU and they married in 1969. Fred was a talented woodworker, as well as a versatile builder, repairman, stone mason, roofer, and editor of scientific journals and PhD papers. At 25, he lost most of one lung to surgery, and consequently dealt with chronic illness throughout his life.
Fred was a lifelong lover of nature. He planted many trees and maintained an amazing organic garden for decades. He loved every kind of music and had an ongoing love of books. Over his life he collected several thousand books, all of which he read.
He leaves behind his wife, Dixie Lubin, three daughters, Jennifer Lubin, Terra Lubin, and Maya Lubin, a sister, Paula Ware, a brother, Mitchell Lubin, four grandchildren, Milo Lubin (16), Jake Lubin (11), twins Alice Lubin Meyer and Zella Lubin Meyer (16), a step-grandson, Liam Ware (29), a niece, Alexandria Ware, two nephews, Grant Lubin (20) and Clay Lubin (17), a great-niece, Annabel DeWolfe (6), and a great-nephew, Julian DeWolfe (12).
Fred was a truly original man. He was and is loved and appreciated by his family and friends.
Graveside services will be held Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at 1 pm at Maple Grove Cemetery in N. Lawrence. Caryn Mirriam Goldberg will officiate. Memorial contributions are suggested to Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home memo: Fred Lubin to assist the family with expenses.
