A memorial visitation for Jerry C. Altman, 81, Lawrence, KS will be held Friday, June 29, 2018, from 5:30 to 7 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Private inurnment with military honors will be conducted at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Jerry passed away surrounded by loved ones, Saturday, June 16, 2018, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1937, in Bellingham, Wash., the son of Waldo E. and Gertrude M. Kinley Altman. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1955. Shortly after High School Jerry enlisted with the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Furse Destroyer till 1959. He married Corale A. Cully in Aug 1961. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Library & Museum was where he continued his government service with the Supervision of Grounds & Maintenance of the facility and archives for over 30 years. After retirement in 1994, Jerry and Corale moved to Lawrence, Ks. He enjoyed driving the school buses for the Lawrence School District in his spare time.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Corale of 57 years; daughters Rene MacMurray and Carrie Williams (Steve Williams) and four grandchildren. Tyler and Ian MacMurray, Megan and Katie Williams all of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Altman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Visiting Nurses/Hospice, or a charity of the donor’s choice, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
