Services for James A. ‘Jim’ McKinley, 77, Lawrence, KS, will be at a later date in Dardanelle, Ark. Jim died Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the University of Kansas Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1940, the son of Clayborn and Alberta McKinley in Bertrand, MO. Jim graduated from Kansas State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He served four years as a Civil Engineer in the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Captain. Jim worked as an architect at various private firms in Missouri and Arkansas and retired as an architect for the State of Kansas.
He married Betty Sue Freeman in 1975 in Russellville, AR. She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 2017. Jim’s survivors include a sister, Carolyn McKinley Lane and husband Mike, Georgetown, TX; a daughter, Debbie Moudy and husband Jimmy, Dardanelle, AR.; a son, Kevin McKinley and wife Rachael, Navarre, FL.; six grandchildren, Misty Dickson (Thomas), Sean Moudy (Holly), Conor and Jaret McKinley, and Chris and Danae James; and five great grandchildren, Ellijah and James Moudy, Ryen Olivia, and Londan and Blakeley Dickson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jim’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
