Services for Willard Joseph (Joe) Atwell, 90, Lawrence, will be 1 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. A visitation will be Friday, March 1, 2019, from 6-7 pm.
Joe died Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at LMH Health.
Joe was born July 18, 1928, in Marceline, MO, the son of Harry and Velda D. Wright Atwell.
He enlisted in the United States Army from 1948-1952, and served during the Korean War.
Joe married Shelia Jo Mathews in October 1953 in Harrisonville, Arkansas, she preceded him in death on October 8, 1996.
He worked for the City of Lawrence and retired after many years. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and cleaning his 57 Chevy to go to car shows.
Survivors include his sons Ricky Atwell, Bill Atwell, Mike Atwell; many grand children and great grand children, all of Lawrence.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shelia and son Jimmy Atwell in 2018.
A visitation will take place from 6-7 pm, Friday, March 1, 2019, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
