Funeral services for June Lederer Pine, 91, Lawrence, will be at 1 pm Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Koberlein officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Pine died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at Neuvant House West in Lawrence.
She was born Dec. 28, 1926, in rural Douglas County near Baldwin, the daughter of Earle Norwood and June Edith Newland Lederer. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944 as the class valedictorian. She worked for many years at Pine’s Greenhouse (later renamed Ralph’s) and at the Lawrence Journal World. She retired in 1990 from the office of the Clerk of the District Court in Douglas County. June was an accomplished seamstress, and was well-known as an excellent pie baker. She was a 70-year member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she sang, played the organ, and was involved in United Methodist Women. She was also active in the Jayhawk 4-H Club and the EHU.
June married Ralph Edward Pine on June 3, 1948, in Danforth Chapel on the KU Campus. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2007. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Arley, John, and Glen Lederer, Thelma Randel, and Doris Blevins. Survivors include three children, Carol Kissack and husband Clayton, Wichita, Sandy Biggerstaff and husband Dwane, Lawrence, and Scott Pine and wife Karen, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Wayne Pine and wife Ruth, Lawrence; six grandchildren, Jessica, Charlie, Phil, Bryan, Kyle, and Sara, and eleven great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 am to 8 pm Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 5 to 6 pm.
