Dorothy Lee Knudson

Dorothy Lee (Arnold) Knudson, 78, died Nov 25, 2015 after a brief illness in Lawrence, Kansas. She was born on August 14, 1932 to Lois and Harold Arnold of Rozel, Kansas. After graduating from Rozel High School she attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS and earned a B.S. in 1954. While at Bethany, she met and married Vernie Anton Knudson. Both were teachers for a number of years before moving in 1971 to Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While living in Sault Ste. Marie, Dorothy taught at McKinley and Washington elementary schools. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, teaching classes, providing organ music for services and assisting with the annual bazaar. She also served two terms as president of the women’s organization, WELCA. Dorothy and Vernie moved back to Kansas in 1999 to be near their children and relatives. They became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Lawrence.

Dorothy was pre-ceded in death by her husband Vernie and a sister Wilma Ogle. Her children survive her: daughters Joleen of Salina, KS and Bethanne of Hendersonville, NC, a son Arnie and his wife Karla of Lawrence. Also surviving are a sister: Norma Blake of Rozel, KS, four grandchildren: Emily, Myles, Kristofer and Annika, four great grandchildren: Anthony, Dorothy, Douglas, and Gwendolyn, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lawrence on Saturday, January 16 at 1:30 pm. Dorothy’s family requests no flowers.
