Mr. Lawrence I. “Larry” Craig, of Vinland, KS passed away Sept. 8th at KU Medical Center in Kansas City. He was born on August 5, 1935, in Lawrence, KS to Everett and Elizabeth Craig.
Larry was a lifelong resident of Vinland, having attended Kansas State University before beginning a career in farming. At the time of his death he owned and operated Hagerman/Craig Farms (formerly known as Sunny Slope Farms). He was particularly pleased that his son and grandson chose to join him in the family business that he and Aubrey Hagerman began years earlier. Larry was also very grateful for the many years of friendship and labor that Junior (James) Hargett, devoted to him and the farm.
Mr. Craig was also active in several community endeavors; he served on the Vinland Fair board, was a member of the Douglas County Livestock Association, a past member of the Baldwin USD 348 school board, and lifelong member of the Vinland United Methodist church, where he also served as trustee and treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Spomer, of Corvallis, OR; brothers Charles Craig, of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and Norman Craig of Seattle, WA. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eloise; daughter, Sharon and husband Don Boyd, Cabot, AR; son, Mike and wife Julie, Vinland, KS; sister, Ruth Ellen Craig, Corvallis, OR; brother, Kenny and wife Florence, Valencia, CA; sister-in-law, Darlene Craig, Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren, Dennis Hawley-Craig and wife Brenna, Vinland, KS; LeeAnn Reed and husband Aaron, Cabot, AR; Amy Wright and husband Cory, Baldwin, KS; Preston Boyd and wife Chelsea, Camden, AR; Callie Craig, Baldwin, KS; 1 great grandchild, Landen Wright, Baldwin, KS; and a devoted host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 14, 2015, at First United Methodist Church, Baldwin, KS.
Friends may call from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday.
It is requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Vinland Cemetery Association, Vinland United Methodist Church, or the American Heart Association, sent in care of the funeral home.
