Martha Mae Taylor McDonald died on February 28, 2019, at Bridge Haven Memory Care, Lawrence, KS.
She was born March 12, 1934, in Sedan, NM, the daughter of Homer and Myrtle Taylor. She graduated from Clayton High School (NM) in 1952 and attended Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas. Martha moved to Las Cruces, NM in 1956, then back to Clayton in 1960. She resided in Garden City, KS from 1984 until 2007 then returned to Clayton. She moved to Lawrence in 2011.
Martha did clerical work for the office of the Quartermaster Corps at White Sands Missile Range, was a teletype operator at The Union County Leader (NM) and held several church receptionist positions. She owned 2 businesses in Clayton—Perry’s Men’s Wear and Beau Mobile Auto Parts. She volunteered as a church organist/pianist for over 30 years.
She married Perry McDonald on January 14, 1956. He died April 18, 1978.
Survivors include a daughter Cecilia McDonald of Lawrence; a son Truitt of Carlsbad, NM; a son Coleman of Clayton, NM; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Martha loved music, art, knitting, and a good card game. She was generous and quick to help in her church, art association, and other civic groups. She was a kind and loving soul who had a smile for everyone.
There will be a Celebration of Life service honoring Martha, on June 1 at 2:00 pm, at Assembly of God Church in Clayton, New Mexico, 1005 S. 1st Street.
