Mary Ruth Scott

Funeral services for Mary Ruth Scott, 86, Lawrence, will be at 11 am Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, with Pastor Dave Upchurch officiating, Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Scott died Friday, July 18, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Lawrence.

She was born Jan. 11, 1928, in Franklin County, Va., the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Nanny Elizabeth Eames Perdue. She attended school in Glade Hill, Va. Mary worked as a CNA for Visiting Nurses for 18 years, where she received a Nurse of the Year award. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and provided many troubled teens refuge in her home.

She married Howard B. Scott on March 12, 1950, in South Carolina. He preceded her in death, as two brothers, Claude Perdue and Thomas Perdue, and five sisters, Violet Harper, Sylvia Eames, Rachael Perdue, Martha Perdue, and Earnestine Perdue. Survivors include her children, Michele Mason and husband Richard, Himesville, Ga., Miriam Campbell and husband Michael, Joplin, Mo., Madalon Vann and husband James, Lawrence, Josie Scott, Lawrence, Sheri Birch, Lawrence, Ruby Akin and husband David, Seneca, Mo., Michael Scott, Wichita, and Windell Scott and wife Vickie, Lawrence; two brothers, Alpha Perdue and wife Sumiko, Fayetteville, N.C., and Marvin Perdue and wife Betty, Roanoke, Va.; and 101 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren

Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Monday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6-7:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Visiting Nurses, or Kids International Ministries, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
