Sarah M. “Missy” Hamilton

Sarah M. “Missy” Hamilton, 62, of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Saturday July 23, 2016.

Missy was born on September 13, 1954 in Colorado Springs, CO, and grew up in Lawrence, KS, where she attended Lawrence Public Schools, before going off to Kansas State University to pursue a degree in art, followed by graduate school at Oklahoma State University, where she received her Master’s Degree in art. Missy spent many years in San Francisco, CA where she held various jobs, and had many friends. Missy later returned to Lawrence, to spend time with, and help her parents; Missy was a wonderful artist, and got back-into the “art scene” in Lawrence, the town she loved. Missy loved her friends in the art world in Lawrence, and helped-out with lots of various local charity groups, including her neighborhood association, along with helping with care of her sister Kathy Carlson. Missy was a carrying, and loving “Mom” to Luna, the beautiful dog she adopted from The Lawrence Humane Society. Missy will be missed by her dear friends and family; she leaves behind two nephews: Greg L. Simms (Lawrence, KS), his wife and daughter, along with Chris H. Simms (Blue Springs, MO), his wife and family.

A celebration of Missy’s life will be held Tuesday Sept. 13, 2016 from 3:00pm-4:00pm, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home Lawrence, KS.

Missy would love to have you think of her friends at The Lawrence Humane Society, with a donation in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
