Verlin Udell Vines, 88, Eudora, passed away December 29th, 2012 at home in the loving company of family. Verlin was born September 3rd, 1924 in Arkansas, the son of Jesse and Virgie Vines.
Verlin served in the US Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific he was a Sgt in the 762 MP Battalion. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Verlin worked for the MO Pacific Railroad before moving to Eudora in 1952 to work at Hercules Ammunition Plant until it closed. He then worked at Meyer Lumber Company in Kansas City until his retirement in 1984.
On December 10th, 1949 he married Maxine Gillihan, she survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter Glenda Goodpaster (Paul), Marion, Indiana, his son Richard Vines (Marcella), Coffeyville, Kansas, daughter Linda Davison, Eudora, daughter Brenda Chase, Burnsville, Minnesota. His grandchildren, Andrea Gannaway-Halsted, Lawrence, Douglas Vines (Shannon), New Mexico. His great grandchildren, Katherine Halsted, Collin Vines and Hayden Vines, sister’s Bonna Strout and Essie Gillihan in Arkansas. He was preceded in death by grandson Richard Vines, II and son in law Ray Chase.
Family graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm. Friday, January 4th at Eudora Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society or Hospice Advantage of Kansas City, Kansas and may be sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
