Graveside services for Mathilda Mary “Tillie” Dodson, 93, Lawrence, will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Dodson died Monday, October 4, 2010 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born February 1, 1917, in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Julie Wojtech. 

She worked as a telephone operator for 14 years in Chicago, and later as a sales clerk at Kroger in Lawrence.  Tillie was a landlady and enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bingo, boating, dancing, telling jokes, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren. 

She married Ed Dodson in 1951 and lived in Lawrence for over 50 years.  He died in 2006.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Crawford and husband Steve, Lawrence; three grandchildren, John, Wes, and Stephanie; a brother and sister; two sister-in-laws, Goldie Harmon and Virginia Copp, of Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tillie will be forever remembered for her kindness, big smile, and sense of humor.  She will be greatly missed!

Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.  Following the service on Thursday, there will be a celebration of Tillie’s life at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community, 4851 Harvard Rd., Lawrence, KS 66049-3964 at 3:30 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation, and Hospice Care, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Bonnie-we were out of town and as i read the last weeks papers saw the sad news of your Moms passing. i only saw your Mom a few times but she really was someone that stuck with you-such a bright attitude and making even her daughters goofy friends feel good. i will be thinking about you and your family during this hard time. marsha
