Services for Cheryl Ann Garrett, 53, Lawrence, will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at 9th Street Baptist Church, Lawrence with Pastor Delmar A. White officating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Ms. Garrett died, Monday April 25, 2011 at her home.
She was born July 18, 1958 in Lawrence, the daughter of John Steve and Clara Belle Garrett. She has lived in Lawrence her entire life.
Ms. Garrett was employed with Scotch Cleaners, the Lawrence Holiday Inn Holidome, and very much enjoyed working at the Kansas University Campus at Mrs. E’s. She enjoyed helping raise her many nieces and nephews, while their parents worked.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father John Steve Garrett, Sr.
Survivors include her only son, Damien Garrett; her mother, Clara Garrett, Lawrence; four sisters, Sondra Garrett, Debra Garrett, Rose Garrett, all of Lawrence, Beatrice Brown Scott, Ottawa; five brothers, John Garrett, Jr., Lawrence, Phillip Garrett, Topeka, Tommy Brown, Ottawa, Michael Garrett, Denver, CO, and James Garrett, Lawrence; two granddaughters Dearah Garrett, Lawrence, and Amarie Stevicks, Topeka; forty-eight nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Friends may call Sunday 9am. To 8pm. at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Ninth Street Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

This is your brother from another mother. You will truly be miss, I miss you already.You left way to soon. He has other plans for you and we all know that.

I was sorry to hear about Cheryl. She was a nice, caring person who always had a smile on her face. She will be missed.

God be with you in your time of sorrow. Cheryl was always such a special person and friend to me. She will be missed by so many people who Loved her, I am one of those people. Cheryl was one of those people that made you smile the minute you saw her. And Iknow that she is in a better place with her Lord.
I will definitely miss cousin Cheryl. She was such a delight to be around. She would always make you laugh. Take care Cheryl, the hard times are over for you. Rest in peace. I love you and will miss you.

Was sorry to read about Cheryl. I worked with her up at KU and also did her taxes. I know she loved all her family and talked about them quite often to me.
I am sorry but I am unable to attend her funeral, but my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
