Services for Harold Dean Wilkins, 63, Perry, will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Underwood Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Wilkins died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 25, 1948, in Bennington, Oklahoma, the son of George Andrew and Rena Dimple McIntyre Wilkins. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1966. He has lived in the Lawrence area since 1963.
Mr. Wilkins served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a material handler at Berry Plastics. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, singing karaoke, all sports, KU Jayhawks, and in his younger years he was a great baseball player.
He married Glenda Kay Howard in August of 1970, in Ottawa, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include, 2 sons, Michael Dean Wilkins and his wife Candy, Perry, Eric Matthew Wilkins and wife Crystal, Perry; brothers, Jimmy Ray Wilkins and wife Judy, Lawrence, Jerry Edward Wilkins and wife Lila, Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Lorene Minyard, Brownfield, TX, Jewell Rogers and husband Bill, Galena, KS; grandchildren, Skye, Michelle, Ivy, Marissa, and Jacob, all of Perry, Jenny and Tanya, of Lawrence; great-granddaughter, Cassie, of Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by brothers George Leon Wilkins, Robert Dale Wilkins, and Victor James Wilkins; sisters, Ada Mae Walker and Nona Lee Middleton.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Colmery-O’neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.
