Roberta Maxine Olsen

Commendation for Roberta Maxine Olsen, 90, rural Lawrence will be during the regular 11am Sunday Service August 14, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Olsen died July 29, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born June 13, 1921 in Kirbyville, Missouri the daughter of Patterson Fletcher and Minnie L. Thompson Coggburn.

Mrs. Olsen graduated from high school in Branson, MO. She obtained a bachelors degree in California and studied at Massachusetts Institute of Technology through Stanford University. She preformed accounting and computer services. She worked for FMC in California and for Lockheed in Seattle and Washington. Mrs. Olsen worked on top secret projects at the time designing three navy ships and the Bradley Tank for the Army, which are still in use today. She had lived in Lafayette, California, and Seattle, Washington.

She married Quince J. “Ole” Olsen in July 26, 1946, he preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1990. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Dale, Dirk, Leo, Willard and Manford (Bud).

Survivors include 2 daughters, Cheryl Olsen of Lawrence and Sharon Anderson of Napa, CA, one grandson, James Neil Anderson of UC Berkeley, and many nephews and nieces.

It was Maxine’s wish to be cremated and to have her remains buried at sea by the Navy as were her husbands.

The family suggests memorials in her name to be distributed by her daughter to local charities, in care of Olsen Memorials, 681 E. 1300 Rd, Lawrence, KS 66046-9243.
