Funeral services for Jared David Axman, 21, Eudora, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Eudora City Cemetery.
Jared died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 14, 1990, in Great Bend, the son of David A. and Cynthia K. Stricker Axman. He graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2011.
Jared had recently become involved with Cottonwood, Inc. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Angelman’s Syndrome Foundation. He was interested in movies, construction equipment, trucks, tractors, trains, and classical music.
Survivors include his parents, David & Cindy Axman, Eudora; a sister, Alisha Hunley and husband Clifton, Tulsa; maternal grandparents, Glen and Norma Stricker, Great Bend; paternal grandparents, Anthony and Karen Axman, Olmitz; a niece, Kaylynne Hunley; three uncles, Stephen and Ryan Axman, and Tony Stricker; two aunts, Karla Crissman and Michelle Lanham; eight cousins; and his caregiver, Preston Scheibler.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Cottonwood, Inc., in care of the funeral home, 601 Ind., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
I am truly sorry to hear this. I was lucky enough to work with Jared last year. I will always remember his love for classical music!
I had the pleasure of working with Jared last year, I’m sorry for your loss. He will be missed greatly and remembered fondly.

I was very blessed having the opportunity to work with Jared. I have fond memories of him from riding the hay ride at the pumpkin patch to tossing a ball at school. I believe I learned more from him then he learned from me. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I know that Jared will be greatly missed.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my autistic son when he was 6 years old in Lawrence back in 2005. I truly understand loss and also I remember Jared as I worked as a school bus monitor in Lawrence from 2006 to 2010 and I had Jared briefly on my bus in the mornings.
