Services for Lowell Edward Dodd, 76, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Heritage Baptist Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow at Alpine Cemetery, near Melvern Lake.
Mr. Dodd died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at his residence.
He was born May 31, 1935 in Success, Arkansas to Guthrie Thrilcill and Willie Elsie “Minnie” Yates Dodd.
He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Lawrence as well as Meridian Baptist Church in Newton.
He is survived by 2 sons, Ricky Dodd, Newton, and Robbie Dodd, Texas; 2 daughters Lorinda Hartzler and LaVonna McAlister, both of Lawrence; a brother, Fredrick J. Dodd, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lowell E. Dodd Jr.
A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Brother Dodd was a very upbeat man. No matter what his condition, when you asked how he was, he would always answer with “Fantastic!” That was his attitude toward life. He told me once, “You can be fantastic if you want to. You have to decide to be fantastic.” I was priviledged to have visited him in his home a few times recently. He always welcomed us from Heritage Baptist Church with a smile on his face. He was a genuine pleasure to talk with and spend time with. He was very well loved by everyone at church, and he will be sorely missed. May God bless his family with the comfort of knowing that Brother Dodd is with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He really is fantastic now!
