A Graveside service for Francis L. Alexander, 82, Lawrence, will be 11 am Friday, at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Francis passed away August 12, 2014, at Tonganoxie Rehab Center, after battling Parkinson ’s disease.
He was born August 13, 1931, in Lawrence, the son of the late Leroy and Geneva Bateson Alexander. He attended Woodlawn Elementary School, the three junior highs at 9th & Kentucky St. – Central, Old High, and Manual – and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1949. Before joining the Lawrence Police Department in 1960, Francis worked at Constant Construction as a carpenter and for the Lawrence Gas Company. In 1987 he retired from the Police Department as a Detective. Francis was an avid fan and enjoyed watching and following KU football and basketball. He was also a giant Kansas City Royals fan.
Francis married Betty Lee Deplue on July 2, 1950, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three children, Larry (Life Partner, Renee Stotler) of Lawrence, Rhonda Busch (husband, Steve) of Fairfax, Virginia, and Duane, of Lawrence; grandchildren Lori Alexander of Lawrence; Larabe (wife, Tammy) of Ottawa; Jamie Stotler, Olathe, Kansas, Jessica Busch, Manassas Park, Virginia, Steven Busch (wife, Katie) of Centreville, Virginia; Cassie Madison of Blue Springs, Missouri; seven great grandchildren, Deborah Busch of Manassas Park, Virginia; Teagan Busch of Centreville, Virginia; Emily Alexander, Mikala Alexander, Makayla Alexander and Scarlett Alexander of Ottawa, Kansas; Sammie Brickhouse and Lexie Brickhouse of Blue Springs, Missouri, and many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Beverly Springer and grandson, Jason.
Friends may call from noon to 8pm Thursday where the family will receive them from 6pm-7pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials made to Douglas County Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.
