Brenda F. Mathews

Funeral services for Brenda F. Mathews, 74, Lecompton, will be 10 am Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Lecompton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

She died Monday at her home, surrounded by her family.

Brenda was born November 15, 1940, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, the daughter of George and Earlene Morgan Harrelson. She grew up in Arkansas. Her teen years were spent in St. Louis, MO, she and her family moved to Lawrence in 1967.

She married Larry L. Mathews on June 1, 1973, in Perry, KS. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, John A. Mathews, Lecompton, Jeffery L. Mathews, Perry; two daughters, Beth Mathews, Perry, Chris Nichols, Eudora; stepmother, Ophelia Harrelson, Guntown, MS; three brothers, Allen (Buddy) Harrelson, Topeka, Anthony Harrelson, Saltillo, MS, Marty Harrelson, Madison, MS, three sisters Beverly Jung, Cape Girardeau, MO, Christy Taylor, Friendswood, TX, Jane Barnabo, Alvin TX; and four grandchildren.

Brenda is preceded in death by her father George and birth mother Earlene Graves.

Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 3-4 pm.

The family suggests memorial contributions made to Kansas Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
