Beatrice Jeanette ‘Bea’ Jones

Memorial services for Beatrice J. Jones, 78, of Lawrence, will be Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at 2 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. Private inurnment will be later in Manhattan. Beatrice died January 17, 2015, at Neuvant House, Lawrence, Kansas, peacefully, with her family and loving caregivers at her side.

She was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Junction City, Kan., the daughter of Dale and Esther Rockey Jones. She graduated from Manhattan High School, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Kansas State University in 1959, and a master’s degree in library science from Denver University in 1963. Bea taught for two years, and then began a career that spanned about forty years with the Kansas City, Mo. Public Library as a Librarian, most recently at the Westport Branch, where, among other things, she arranged children’s programs. She loved music, was an accomplished pianist and played bassoon in the Kansas State University Marching Band, and the Manhattan Symphony. She was a member of the KSU Alumni Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale Jones and Esther Rockey Jones and her twin sister, Barbara Jones. and is survived by a number of cousins.
