Graveside inurnment services for Marian L. Wiseman, 85, will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2015. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
Marian passed away peacefully on January 17, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Marian was born on August 10, 1929, at Wakarusa Township in Douglas County, the daughter of Clifford and Lela Cooper, the oldest of five children. She graduated from University High School on the campus of the University of Kansas at the age of 16. She married John L. Davis on August 14, 1948. Together they had three children and lived in the Eudora area for 17 years. All three children survive. Marian and John divorced in 1979 after 31 years of marriage. She married Jack Wiseman of Vinland on May 11, 1979. They lived happily together in the Ottawa area for 26 years when Jack passed away in 2005. They enjoyed traveling together and going dancing with their friends on the weekends. In 2007, Marian moved to Lawrence to be closer to her children. She lived at Prairie Commons Apartments with her beloved dog, Princess. There, she was able to rekindle many former friendships and forge many new ones that she treasured.
Over the years, in addition to being a homemaker, Marian held jobs at Bell Telephone, Oleson’s Drug Store in Eudora, Rogers Cleaners, Acme Cleaners and Kansas Footwear in Lawrence and H.D. Lee Company in Ottawa. Marian was an avid Jayhawk Basketball fan and loved attending plays and musicals with her children. She enjoyed eating out with her friends and family and during warm weather regularly attended the “evening meeting” at Prairie Commons.
Survivors include daughters Linda Easum (Brent Hill) of Lawrence and Donna Davis (Douglas Peck) of Oskaloosa and a son Ronald Davis (Barbara) of Murfreesboro, TN, a sister, Myrna Clark of Deansville, TX, a brother, Warren Cooper of St. Ann, MO. seven grandchildren, Stacy Potter and Erin Easum of Perry, Michael Foster and Patrick Peck of Oskaloosa and Rochelle LeMaster of Holts Summit, MO, Nathan Patterson of London, KY, Brandon Patterson of Murfreesboro, TN and nine great-grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Wayne Cooper, a sister Loretta Lawrenz and her beloved Princess.
The family suggests memorials to the Lawrence Humane Society in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O.Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.
There will be a gathering to celebrate Marian’s life at the Prairie Commons Clubhouse from 4-6p following graveside services.
Donna I am sorry I will not be there to celebrate her life. Remember all the good times. Thinking of your family.
My condolences to the fine family. Thanks for that wonderful 85th birthday party, a big surprise to Marian, here at Prairie Commons. She’s a great neighbor and we miss her a lot. The evening meetings will convene in her honor!
