A funeral service for Opal Mae Tuckel, 92, Lawrence, will be 10 am Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Tuckel died Saturday, January 24, 2015, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Opal was born November 28, 1922, in Salina, KS, the daughter of Rudolph and Elise Olive Garrison Dietz. They moved to Lawrence when she was one. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School.
She married Ernest Arthur Tuckel on December 7, 1941, at her parent’s house near Lone Star. Ernie & Opal were married for 61 years until Ernie’s death in 2002.
Mrs. Tuckel was a hard working homemaker, helping her husband with their dairy and crop farm while raising 4 children. Her love of cooking was well known and led her later to selling homemade
baked goods at the Lawrence Farmers Market. She volunteered for many years at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons Larry, Terry and David Tuckel all of Lawrence; one daughter Virginia Hare, Prairie Village, KS; sister-in-law Thelma Dietz, Lawrence; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 8 pm Wednesday where the family will receive them from 7-8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
Flowers are welcome but the family suggests memorial contributions made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurses.
I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to everybody who sent flowers, cards, and attended Moms funeral. She will be missed by many and remembered by all. Once again my thanks from I and the rest of the Tuckel family.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Tuckel family. May you feel comfort in the arms of the Lord and friends and family around you during this difficult time. It was always a treat to run into Opal at the hospital, she would always have something to say about Grandma Peg (Wempe) and I enjoyed every story!!
I remember so well seeing Mrs. Tuckel at the Farmer’s Market and her delicious angel food cakes, even chocolate ones. It was a real treat for our family to come home with one.
Condolences to her family.

Celebrate the long life your mother had. She left an imprint on many lives, including mine. I have great memories of fun times at your house. Your Mom was always so nice & welcoming. My Mom enjoyed visiting with your Mom. It is hard for me to believe Mom died 18 yrs ago at age 76. Will always miss her as you will yours. Wonderful memories & your family will help you through the days ahead.
