Terry Joe Hatfield passed on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at his home, surrounded by family and friends.
Terry was born September 6, 1953 in Lawrence, Kansas, to Wilfred W. and Hazel Rose Hatfield, who preceded him in death. He was the youngest of four brothers, Gary and wife Beverly of Sacramento, California, Larry and wife Teri of Lawrence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by a brother David, who was a firefighter with the City of Lawrence, Kansas.
Terry married Susan Elaine Meuffels on September 1, 1990, in Lawrence. She survives him at the home outside of Tonganoxie, Kansas. In addition to his wife Susan and his brothers, Terry is survived by 7 nieces and nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.
Terry worked for the city of Lawrence for over 25 years.
Terry was very active in little league baseball, played lots of softball with the “Canaries” and was a member of ABATE of Kansas.
Terry enjoyed his extended family of boxer dogs, Chelsea, Bowzer, and Joker, his cairn terrier Badger, his horse AJ and cats, BoVish & Rocky Joe. He also enjoyed fishing and motorcycle rides.
A celebration of life will be at the Up & Under (above Johnny’s Tavern) on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The family requests donations to be made to Lawrence Parks & Recreation in memory of Terry in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, PO Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.
The family extends sincere gratitude for all of the help and support received from Dr. Matt Stein and the staff at the Lawrence Oncology Center, and the staff at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
