Services for Delores Ellen Shelley, 79, Lawrence, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery.
Mrs. Shelley died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Medicalodges Eudora.
She was born January 16, 1936, in Sugar Creek, Colorado, the daughter of Esther Adams Kirk and step father, Albert Pippert.
Mrs. Shelley was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting, and researching genealogy. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawrence and volunteered at Meals on Wheels.
She married Robert C.A. Shelley, October 6, 1954 in Lawrence on the Shelley family farm. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Ed Shelley and wife Dee Dee of Topeka; daughter, Jessica E. Hibbs-Shelley of Pleasant Hill, MO; brother, Carl Kirk of Lee’s Summit, MO; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Deborah D. Shelley-Hibbs and a son Rob E. Shelley, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The family suggests memorials to Grace Hospice and Medicaloges Activity Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
I remember all the summers of fun we had at Aunt Dee and Uncle Bob’s. She was so kind and patient in the midst of a whirl of adolescence chaos. God has just been given a wonderful angel in our loss.
Words can’t express the amount of love I received from my wonderful and caring Aunt. We shared many life experiences that drew us very close to each other. She was the most wonderful example of a Christian woman I have ever met. I am glad she is no longer suffering and is in heaven. I will miss her deeply.
I am so thankful for your love of Christ, home and family. You instilled in me the importance of all three. I am thankful for the family gatherings that you and Bob provided. You will be deeply missed. I know that you are no longer ill but whole in the loving arms of Christ.
God has taken a wonderful person to be with him. She will be missed by all who new Dee. Rest in peace Dee.
