Marian Percival

Graveside services for Marian (Tuckel) Percival, 97, Lawrence, will be 10 am Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be Wednesday, June 24, 2015, from 6-7 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Mrs. Percival died Friday, June 19, 2015, at her home following a brief illness.

(Anna) Marian (Tuckel) Percival was born June 18, 1918, on a farm in the Belvoir Community northwest of Clinton, Kan., the daughter of William Herman Tuckel and Anna Mary (Zeeb) Tuckel. She was of German descent. Her maternal grandparents George and Katherine (Bahnmaier) Zeeb were some of the first German farmers to settle in the Big Springs and Stull, Kansas area. Her paternal grandparents Herman and Emma (Klaus) Tuckel and their family moved to Lawrence from Germany in 1878. Herman was a tailor located in the 700 block of Mass. St.

Marian attended the Belvoir School, Liberty Memorial High School, and graduated from Lawrence Business College. She was the bookkeeper for Fritzel Jayhawk Creamery in downtown Lawrence for many years. Later she worked with her husband and managed their company, Holton Transport many years. She kept books for 77 years.

She married Melvin E. Percival on July 19, 1951. They raised two children, Myron William Percival and Cheryl Ann Percival. Melvin died March 19, 1999. Her son Myron died in a car accident in 1974.

Marian and Melvin were long time members of Central United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, sister, Wilma (Tuckel) Kampschroder, brothers Alfred and Harry Tuckel, and nephews Kerwin and Lester Tuckel.

Marian is survived by her daughter Cheryl Percival, brother-in-law Ivan Percival, sister-in-law Judy Percival, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
