Messages & Condolences

From Jennifer Osborn...

Missy was such a bright light & the best neighbor that anyone could ask for. She took such an interest in my children & always went out of her way to say hello and share a laugh. She was so kind and so engaging. We miss her laugh and her presence. There is a huge void and she is missed.

From Janet Nelson...

Our whole family adored Missy. My parents, siblings, & I all loved her & were so lucky to have known her all her life. In recent years, I was honored when Missy reached out to me for my advice in adopting her dog Luna. Our mutual love of animals & regard for their welfare rekindled our friendship & strengthened our bond. Missy was simply one of the kindest, most caring & compassionate people I’ve ever known. Her exit from our lives is such a profound loss, not only to me, but to everyone fortunate to know her. Missy, I miss you & can still hear your voice, but like the James Taylor song lyric, “I always thought that I’d see you again.”

From Liane Angus...

I talked to Missy after the her sister’s (half-sister?) funeral and she told me they all had Popsicles because that’s what her sister liked. This delighted her (and me.) I knew she really enjoyed that gathering. And though I probably won’t be there for her memorial I know it will be just as special and joyous.

From Liane Angus...

I am still so stunned to hear about Missy. I met her years ago when she came for massage and acupuncture treatments in San Francisco and then invited me into her extraordinarily creative life.
We maintained a constant phone relationship when she returned reluctantly to Lawrence. I was always excited to hear when she was engaged in her art projects. I loved her sweet, sarcastic (yes, they go together) and original sense of humor!!! She was my go to person for recommending dark British and Scandinavian TV detective series, the darker the better. She was a great comfort to me during some dark times and distracts me with her wonderful irreverence!
Like my mother, who shared the same birthday and the same love of art and crafts and anything made by hand, I have many things she made for me that I cherish: a child’s chair she painted with hands made for my young son, a beautiful silk painted scarf, a stuffed velvet heart outlined with beads.
I am wondering if any of her art is available for sale? I loved her work, rich, deeply textured and full of depth.
Missy I so miss you.
Thank you whoever posted the photo of her smiling – her spontaneity, mischievousness and sweetness all there!
Does anyone know how to reach Barry and Steve in Minneapolis? They lived in San Francisco and Missy babysat there kids (Dean? and a sister -sorry I can’t remember he names!) they were all close at one time and should know about Missy.

From Greg L. Simms...

A brief up-date of the pending celebration of life for my dear Aunt Missy…we are looking at a possible gathering on Tuesday Sept. 13th (Missy’s birthday), to gather and celebrate the wonderful, but short life of our Missy.
THANK YOU RUMSEY-YOST FUNERAL HOME!!
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, and kind words.
God Bless.

“Stay tuned for date, time, and location please.”

From Marty Olson...

Peace, my dear. Your legacy is a much-admired creativity. Thank you for the beauty you adde to the world.

From John William Peters...

Got to know Missy the last years of high school from Art classes. She was a sweet young girl back then always with a smile. She went into Metalsmithing at K-State and I into the Metals dept at KU. So sort of the same path in life. We lost contact after high school and was just starting getting back in touch over this last couple of years. May she now rest in peace!!

From Bernard Frazier...

Dear Missy, I will miss you. How fine you are. Heavens above keep you. Fortune on your journey. In the stars forever. Bernard

From Regina Kraus...

Missy was a special neighbor who I first met when we were both out walking (she with Luna, me with my baby boy). Over the years, she always took an interest in my children and they with her – she was intriguing, genuine, and just an easy person to know. I will remember fondly our conversations and a few dinners we had together, as well as her interest in my growing family at a time when just that – her interest – was a great deal of support and encouragement to me. My thoughts and heart go out to her close friends and family. What a wonderful person she was.

From Suzy Harris Coleman...

Missy and I became close friends in High School and stayed in touch over the years. Her unique and generous spirit will be missed. My condolences to everyone.

From Cristian Baldenegro...

My deepest condolences for the loss of Missy. I wish I had known her much better, but the little I did know her showed me her warmth as a person and her love for art. May you find comfort in this time of grief.

From Lora...

I am so very sorry for the loss of Sarah. May God grant you the ability to endure during this difficult time. May you find comfort in God’s promise to resurrect our loved ones to life on a paradise earth free from pain, suffering and death. (John 5:28, Revelation 21:3 & 4) As we wait for the fulfillment of that promise may the fond memories of Sarah comfort you and ease your pain.

From Rick Sanchez...

Missy and I met in 9th grade in 1968. That was the year I moved to Lawrence. She welcomed me with a big heart and a smile as she did to most everyone. We shared a love for music and art and stayed pretty close over the years after we both moved to California and some after she moved back to Lawrence. Today, my wife and I have a beautiful piece of her art hanging on the wall of our house. It will remind me of her every time I see it. Hearing of her passing was a shock, as it is to many of the people who knew Missy. Condolences to those who had the privilege of knowing her.
