I met Blaine in Jan. 2014 when I became his primary care physician. I got to know him well over the past few years as he tried to regain his health following a hospitalization . Due to his strong will, sense of humor and infectious laugh, he quickly became one of my favorite patients. I looked forward to seeing him each time — including only a few days before he passed. He made great strides in becoming healthy and I have told his personal story in many places.
I invited Blaine to speak with me at a physician’s conference in 2015 in Kansas City. He nervously agreed to do so but became the star of the entire event. His sincere reflections on health and health are resonated deeply with the audience of doctors from around the country. Several people were in tears, in between laughing at his quips. (http://www.aafp.org/news/practice-professional-issues/20150715dpcsummit.html) Many physicians I’ve met have credited Blaine’s powerful story with starting their own practices to better serve their patients.
Blaine thanked me and my nurse frequently, but sadly, I probably didn’t thank him enough for the amazing friend he was. I wish he could’ve enjoyed his newfound health for longer, but I am happy he was feeling well in recent years and doing what he loved.
Godspeed Blaine.
I am so sorry for the loss of your brother, uncle, son and friend. I am sure it is a difficult loss and it will take time for the pain to lessen. Know that God is crying with you and he will comfort you. You will see him again.
I served Blaine at Dunkin Donuts for about three years, every time he came in he made the store smile. Always making my day, and others. Never will forget this man, rest easy.
