Services for Robert “Paul” Barnes, 56, Osage City, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Barkley Cemetery, south of Osage City.
Mr. Barnes died Friday, May 05, 2017, at his home.
He was born August 4, 1960, in Lawrence, the son of William Leslie and Delores Beulah Acton Barnes. He attended Lawrence High School.
Mr. Barnes worked for the City of Lawrence in the solid waste division for 22 years. He enjoyed raising horses, helping friends with cattle, taking motorcycle rides in the country, barbecuing, helping elderly people, and spending time with friends and family.
He married Nancy Rae Hoffpauir, April 21, 1982. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include, sons, Gordon Long and wife Anette of Kansas City, MO, Mark Long and wife Susan of Kansas City, MO, Paul Long and wife Clarie of Lawrence, KS; sisters, Frances Juanita Newby of Crystal City, MO, Sandy Sue Lewis and husband Robert of Ozawkie, KS, Norma Jean Mayfield of Nelson, NE, Nancy Lynn Barnes of Lawrence, KS; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Frank Barnes in 1986.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Nancy, my heart and my sympathy go out to you in this time of tremendous difficulty. May God grant you peace and serenity in the knowledge Paul’s journey through pain, worries and suffering has ended. By the same token, may you rejoice in the many years of wonderful memories you had together. Paul will live in those memories held deep in your heart and mind forever. Love you.
I met Paul 14 years ago and I learned a lot about a man who meant well to all he came in contact with.
He was the most amazing man ever! He was an outstanding husband, a friend you could depend on and the most amazing grandfather and great grandfather! Rest my dear …never to be forgotten for sure! I got to get to know Paul through my brother Jack Miller. Paul always could make you laugh and always was cheerful. He will be missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you Nancy.

Paul was my favorite person to work with I sat with him all most every morning and he would tell me jokes he would have me laughing so hard I’ve worked with him for 16 years it has been my pleasure you could bring a smile to anyones face rest in peace my dear friend
Nancy, Paul was always a calming factor for me when I was having a bad day at work. He had a knack with his humor to bring anyone out of a funk. :>) It was my pleasure to work with and alongside Paul all those years. Will be missed.

Paul was one of the most enjoyable people to be around I have ever met, he always had something funny to say to put a smile on everyones face. What a great person he was!!! Heaven has truly gained an amazing person. He will be missed.
