John Wesley Clark

John Wesley Clark, 78, of Lawrence died Friday, September 15th at Lawrence Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

John was born May 15th, 1939 to Amos and Nancy (Tiger) Clark.

He has been a member of the Lawrence community since 1956, when he started school at Haskell Indian Nations University.  He worked for Coca-Cola for 27 years as a warehouse manager, and he also worked for Stokely- Van Camp for some time. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and playing pool. Many people around Lawrence knew him as Joe or “The Hustler”, a nickname he acquired over the years of playing pool around town. John was a member of the Indian Methodist church, and was a sponsor for Alcoholics Anonymous, the River City, Jayhawk, and Retreat and Sunshine chapters. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and will be missed greatly.

He married Martha Mae Watson on October 8th, 1962. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his sons John Clark Jr., Ramus Clark, and David Clark; brother Charles Maylen, sister Mary Chotkey, and step-daughter Laquita Watson. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers James and Andrew Clark.
