Michael Gale McManness was born October 28, 1953 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri to Soney Anthon and Erma Glea Cobb McManness.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Rene Page McManness and children Rebecca Glea McManness, David Anthon and Sarah Elizabeth McManness all of Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas, and Matthew Buler McManness of Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, and one granddaughter, Gracelynn Dawn McManness of Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Darrell Anthon McManness.

Michael graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971. He worked for Francis Sporting Goods as a teenager, then as a commercial and industrial Sheet Metal Worker for Sheet Metal Workers, Local No. 2 for 44 years. He retained his license to sell Real Estate for 35 years. He was a partner in McManness Brothers Real Estate Management for 20 years, continuing to own and manage Real Estate until his death.

Michael was a Southern Baptist, attending First Southern Baptist, Grace Baptist, Cornerstone Southern Baptist, and Antioch Baptist Church during his lifetime.

He loved his God, his family, and his country. He was a life-long Kansas University Basketball and Football fan, and spent many happy hours watching them play and following the recruiting. As a young adult, he became fascinated by Geneaology, eventually tracing his family line back to Daniel Boone and the early settlers.

Friends may call Friday from 8 am to 8 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in honor of the struggle of his mother and other family members with diabetes, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.

Dear Brenda and family,
My memories of Michael come from the family reunions at
Lanny’s lake. Michael was a person you were immediately drawn
to. As is often the case for a person who lives some distance away,
my sadness is that I never really got to know Michael. My thoughts
and prayers will continue to be with you in the days ahead. My
mother was Gertrude Rohrbach Andres, younger sister of Bertha.
Our love to you, Gary & Carolyn Andres, Ontario, Canada
