Private services will be held for Alvina A. Mathews, (maiden name Ganz), who died April 5, 2018, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Born September 28, 1930 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Fedele and Yolanda Ganz. Beloved wife of the late Robert J. “Bob” Mathews, they were married October 20, 1951. They raised their family in Chicago and Alvina was a Sears employee for many years.
Alvina and her husband retired to Lawrence, Kansas in 1997. Survivors include three children, Laura Heitshusen, (husband John), Robert Mathews, and Mary Beth Patterson, (husband Brad).
She is the cherished Grandmother to Holly, Todd, Scott, Lauren, Kyle, Megan, Mark and Michael. She was a blessed Great Grandmother “JuJu”, to eight great grandchildren.
Alvina and her family are advocates of Autism Awareness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations directed to her son Robert Mathews. Alvina’s desired legacy was to support St. Coletta, a provider of services for adults with developmental disabilities. In the near future, the family intends to establish a fund at St. Coletta, in Alvina and Bob’s honor.
