Ms. Payne died Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Bridge Haven Village in Lawrence.
She was born August 11, 1941, in Picher, Oklahoma, the daughter of Cecil John and Helen Marie McDonald Baker. She graduated from high school and attended some college.
Ms. Payne worked as a machine operator at E&E Specialties for many years. She enjoyed gardening, poetry, crafting, and participating on a women’s bowling league.
She married Arthur H. Payne in Miami, Oklahoma. They later divorced after 36 years of marriage. Arthur died in 2004.
Survivors include a son, Sheldon Payne of South Hutchinson, Kansas; a daughter, Corina Payne of Rogers, Arkansas; brother, John C. Baker of Columbia, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Charlotte Payne and Cynthia Payne; and sister, Caroline Stephens.
The family suggests memorials to Paralyzed Veterans of America, sent in care of the funeral home.
I worked with Gerry at E and E. She was a hard worker and a good friend. I was blessed to know her. My sincere sympathy to you and the family.
