Roy Edward Deel

Services for Roy Edward Deel, 67, Baldwin City, will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City KS. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence KS, with the family greeting friends following the service at the Lumberyard Arts Center in Baldwin City.

Roy died Monday January 21, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 31, 1951, in Lawrence, the son of William Glanville and Betty Jean Coleman Deel. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1970 and attended Emporia State University and Manhattan Area Technical School.

After some summers of ‘building’ the Eisenhower tunnel Roy worked at Baldwin Grain Company and then at the Chemtrade plant in Lawrence KS for over 30 years, before retiring in 2017. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. He enjoyed watching his children play sports and music, watching the Jayhawks, Chiefs, and Royals, driving his MGB GT, canoeing trips to Canada, his long line of dogs and being outdoors.  He especially enjoyed spending time with family.

He married Connie Ann Fothergill on May 3, 1980, at the Baldwin First United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include children Chapin (Marie) of Albuquerque NM, Nathan (Holly O’Neal) of Lawrence, Mattie Cooper (Kayla) of Tijeras NM; grandchildren Araceli, Lorena and Avilynn; brother Sam Deel (Margy); mother-in-law Ann (Pud) Fothergill; sisters-in-law Ronda Deel, Kathy Deel and Lynne Fothergill; brothers-in-law Wade Fothergill (Michelle), Cody Fothergill and Forrest Fothergill (Missy); nieces Sarah (Sean), Railey, Katie, Emy, Emelia, Macey and Nora; nephews David, Hunter, Max and Elliot.

Roy will be received in heaven by his parents; brothers Jim and Bill; father-in-law Chuck Fothergill; niece Susan and nephew Jeff.

Roy suggested memorials to Lumberyard Arts Center, Inc., sent in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
